The idea of the Planetary Angels comes from medieval occultism, while the Cosmic Archons are inspired by ancient Gnostic mythology. The big difference would be that the Planetary Angels are actively trying to help humanity, while the Cosmic Archons are instead trying to control us. The two classes of spirits would usually be at odds with each other. The Angels are powers of Good, while the Archons are powers of a merciless cosmic Law. One of the main reasons I did a write up for the planetary Angels was to provide Magician characters with a complete selection of beings to summon that wouldn’t be evil spirits.
